you will wonder at my staying so long here. I shall
only say that
for the present that I cannot help it—
reasons you will probably have in another letter. It will still be more than a fortnight probably 3 weeks before I reach Mittau.
I dine tomorrow with a set of the most learned men in this place. And I hope to pick up a little usefull knowledge besides making several acquaintances. I shall most probably attend the Academy of Sciences tomorrow in the afternoon.
The worst news I have to tell you now is that I dont improve in my German at all for I never speak it: but then in my French I must improve a little for I speak it a good deal, and this is the language for which I have the more immediate occasion. The other I shall take care shall come on in the course of my tour.
