My dear Sam

Your Brother's absence from Town, who is gone for about a fortnight to Mr
Davis at Brompton, occasioned Mr Lind to send the inclos'd to me to get forwarded
to you at Petersburg, which I have an opportunity of doing, at no expence, to
me, & I hope neither to you, by means of my Friends at the Secretary of State's
Office for the Northern Department, (Lord Stormont's), The inclose'd came to me
too late for the Post on Friday night, but hope this will come time enough
to meet you upon your Arrival. I have commission to tell you you may
direct your Letters, for me (whether for me or your Brother &c)under
cover directed to William Frazer Esq<hi rend="superscript">r One of his Britannic Majesty's
Under Secretaries of State, London. </hi>)and either he or my friend Mr
Sneyd will transmit that therein Inclosed under such cover to me. This will
serve the purpose of saving expence & of Safety — and in like manner
I shall send this and the Inclos'd in it to Mr Sneyd at Lord Stormont's
Office, who will get it frank'd by Mr Frazer, so as to conveyd it
to you Free of Expence, but whether only a Part or the whole of
the way to Petersburg I don't well know — and therefore desire you
will let me know in your next, I believe however the packages
will be compleat: your Letters, my dear Sam, have given me and
all your friends that have seen them great pleasure, myself as you
may imagine, more particularly so, with the hopes that your Excursion
to the several places you have been at & intend to go to, as well as the
many acquaintances you make will answer to you in profit, as
well as pleasure, and as you have said enough to convince me, the
former is your principal object, & the latter no other than a Secondary
means. I shall satisfy myself with the persuasion that you will not
more than is useful & necessary or expedient for the attainmt
of some valuable purpose — as an intention to keep your Expenses
within due bounds, so as not to exceed the Line of prudence with
