I long very much to receive a parcel from you, there
are to be so many pretty things in it

Although I have dined at Sr James Harris's and had a
minute or two of private confab. yet I have not had an opportunity
of speaking of the Model, but I again repeat that
you must secure it as soon as possible. If Burkitt
had no objection I should wish he should go
to Pembroke or where ever it is to pack it
up himself. I will take care he shall be well
paid for his trouble. But this only if he
thinks it at all necessary. Perhaps the fellow
Allen might even pack it up carelessly
on purpose
Since that I have talked with Sir James & find it is not
a thing for the Empress. If I had it here to be sure I could
sell it for a great deal more than the Sum. 3 or 4 times as
much, but I shall not get people to buy a Pig in a Poke.

To day being the Empress's Birthday, I went to Court
and had the honour of kissing her hand again.
I also for the first time saw Count Czernicheff. He has
been ill some time, or as some say shammed it, which
is the chief reason I have not seen him before.
Sr James introduced me to him. I shall go to see
him at his house perhaps tomorrow.

April 19th.
At dinner today at the Chancellor's I happened to be
seated on one side next the Neopolitan Minister
I As he had already called on me not only to leave
his card but had taken some pains to see me,
we soon in this situation entered into conversation.
I as you may imagine presently got him to the
Marine, and was as particular as I could be in
my enquiries about Acton. He says the King
has given him an unlimited power with respect
to expence appointment & discharge of Officers
&c &c in the establishment of a Marine, and
he confirms in general the account which Poli
gave us. He knows Poli and saw Acton with
whom he is also acquainted the day before he set
out for Naples. knew He has heard
Acton himself recount his success against the
Algerines where he had the command of the
Duke of Tuscany's Frigate and this account
agrees also with Poli's.
I will go and call on him in a day or two and
get some further information form him.

The Swedes are fitting out a fleet of 12 Ships of the line
and 6 Frigates. Here they are fitting out a fleet of 15
of the line & 6 Frigates. as the I shall be able to tell
you more about them in another week as I shall
go to Croustad to see them. They will some of them at least
go out of Dock at that time. It is the Ice which prevents their going out now & they are applying hot water & red hot balls to thaw the
Ice from the Dock Gates.
This C tells me.
The Empress sets out the 10th or 12th of May, and returns
the 24th of June O.S. She goes to visit her new Polish
Provinces and the Imperor Emperor is to meet
her at Mageloff but not the King of Poland as is
reported.
April 24th
All the World and I amongst the Rest are invited to
a Bal Masque at the Dutchess of Kingston's. I dont
know whether I shall go or not. I declined an invitation
She gave me to dinner some time ago, by Sr James's
advice on account of her having said told
Mr Forster that
as I was an Architect She could not introduce me into
Company. I thank my Stars that Sr James &c are not of her
persuasion.
