by Salaries. It will however be such I am
sure that my Father cannot but be pleased
with.

Again other circumstances considered
I have great reason to expect much
greater things at home than I used
to do, whether I return now that is in
some months hence or whether I have any
thing to do here for 2 3 or 4 years in the
latter case I should return home most likely
first

Mr Eaton sets tomorrow or next day
for the Black Sea and must return in 2 months #

The elder Lohmann is returned here but I have not spoke with him

# as he has public as well as private business.

Will you wonder when I tell you that by the consent
and advice of those whom I consult I am going
with him. with respect to expence it will rather
be a saving as what it will cost me will not
certainly exceed probably not come up to what I
must spend in the same time here. I had this
morning declined it but dining at Sr James's I found
reason to determine on going. It is not impossible
but we may see Prince Potemkin on the road, and
I shall have a letter from Sir James for him.
at any rate he will write to him to rereacquaint him
when I am gone &c. I shall just be back again
in time after the Empress.

A very strong reason I have for not talking of these matters to any
body about my affairs is the part which Sir James takes in them.
Circumstanced as the 2 countries are now people will be surprised at his taking
the part of assisting in what they may think he ought to oppose.

Poor old Mr Foster is quite out of patience with Datcheff and in consequence sent for me yesterday to ask me if he could not have the part which
Pleschijeff occupied of our joint lodgings. His bed room however is too full of different things to admit of it, but as I am marching off and
probably shall not return till Foster goes to England I give him mine. Dont think I am at the expence of paying my lodging while I am away
indeed the fact is that I have nothing to pay for even when I am here. Pleschijeff has the whole by the year.

Pleschijeff will correspond with you in my absence.
not but what you may expect to have some letters
from me while I am gone. The money matter
is the only one which will suffer by this, and it
was that consideration which had magde me
decline the journey till the advantages were represented
& appeared too strong for short objection.
Should the capital of which I wrote about come
it will lay itself till I come back.

With respect to the present state of my finances
I now go upon credit. in short I shall have taken up
between 3 & 400 roubles beyond my letters of credit.
you cant doubt but this gives me much uneasiness,

but the many advantages which I cannot but derive
from these expences I have made would I am sure
induce my friends to assist me if they knew them
all, and I will I think even from what they do
know of them. Rather than give out I would notwithstanding
the great pain such an obligation
must cost me accept the offer of one whose friendship
is of so short a standing and who could give assistance
only under the very disadvantageous circumstances of tirrany
in this country. Yet this would he do at the first word,
rather than I should be in my distress.

I am very much disappointed in not having received any
letters since those dates 11th of April.

I believe I shall have a M.S. account of this country by a man of spirituality
who has been sent to travel and which is not, nor probably will wont be
in print. If I get it I think to send it to Ld Shelburne but through your hands.
