Mittau Septr 7th NS 1780
I arrived here 4 days ago and set off again for Petersbourg
this evening. I am now at Baron Ofenberg's taking leave
of him. You can have but a very short letter. I am
quite out of heart for not having yet received any
one of your letters these five months almost. I received
here a letter from Pleschijeff in which he tells me that
Mr Shairpe notwithstanding the express directions I had
given him to the contrary has sent your letters to M.
whether they will be sent back again, or further
lord knows where all, I know not. Pleased on
other account with the excursion I have made, I repent
of it only from having missed your letters.
I am distracted with imagining the different things
they may contain. This letter cannot be any longer
I came here with the equipage of my friend the
Count Chadkicwitz. In this manner was I brought
all through Poland and not permitted to pay a farthing
of expence. I hope you are all well, but you may
