Archangel Feby 26th OS 1781

Poor Lind! I cant help thinking of the man
He was all together a very extraordinary character.
For my part I was under great obligation to him :
I received your letter containing the news of his death
the day after I arrived here when I was at dinner
at the house of a Merchant whose acquaintance I
made by his means at Mr Raikes's in London.
I could not help starting at seeing the words "Lind's
Death" put at top.

The papers which you tell me of your having dispatched
I hope to receive by my next packet from Petersbourg.
I got your Dec r 29th containing the first parcel
of "exper": by the last post and "div": came to hand
before I set out. As to the matter between Peake
and Harrison I know no more of it than the man
in the Moon. Sir Charles Douglas's method of
splicing the yards certainly a good one: but I cant say
so much of your description of it. If it were not for the
bright genius of my younger brother, thy scribling would
have been to little purpose.
