NB At Dmitrefsk in the angle which the
small rivulet of Kamyshenka forms with
the Volga, there is plenty of a grey
Slate, which greedily imbibes the moisture
of the air, & was found by a Prof. Lovitz
to be an excellent counterpoise for making
hygrometical scales. Mention has
been made of it, from a Letter of Dr.
Guthrie's in the Medical Commentaries
of Edinburgh, & a full description
of Lovitz's hygrometer will be given
in the second volume of Acta Acad.
Petrpolitanae.
