(Copy) Navy Office 28th April 1781

Sir

In answer to your letter of 26th Instant, we desire
you will please to acquaint the Rt. Hon: the Lords Commissioners
of the Admiralty that we have considered Mr Bentham's Proposal
on the subject of Copper Sheathing, and that we are of opinion
the method at present used, which we conclude he is unacquainted
with, is so secure and superior to that proposed by him, that
we cannot advise any alteration. We are &c.
