Resolved that Mr Bramton be appointed to Value
the Grounds to be purchased for the penitentiary Houses,
and to make a plan of the said Grounds.
At a Meeting June 21. 1782
resolved that an offer be made to the Arch Bishop
and Lord S — of 25 years purchase, at 2£ pr Acre
for the Grounds, and the said offer was made accordingly.
The Supervisors being for some Months in
difrent places, the business was carried on by Letters,
as there could be no Meetings, — Lord Spencer and the
Arch Bishop having refused accepting the price offerd
for the Ground, Messrs Chamberlaine & White were
directed to take the necessary steps for having the
price of the Ground ascertained by a Jury.
The necessary steps having been taken for
summoning a Jury, to fix the price of the Ground, on
the 10th of Sept the Jury met at Battersea, Sir Charles
