Stranger can meet with in any country whatever.
Understanding in conversation with him that he had formerly
lived at Canton I took the liberty of asking him if he
could note it were preferable to send a letter through
the Chan's dominions to my country men in that place and as he was
so obliging as to offer to take charge of my letter
I take this opportunity of addressing you, Gentlemen, without
being certain that any of my friends this letter may come to their hands on acquaintance.

In the beginning of the year 1779 2nd James Lind Physician & fellow
of the Royal Society embarqued from England for China in one of the East
India Company's ships commanded by Capt n Cooper with intention
of bound for China.
If there should come into the hands of either of these gentlemen that I am persuaded
it would give them pleasure.

His Majesty's plat squadron under the
command of Sir Ed Hughes is still I suppose in the E Indies
Captain Blackitt who went from England under the command of Sir Ed
had a great desire of visiting China if he or Sir Gavin
who went out lieutenant of the Burford should by chance

If any vessel of that squadron should be at Canton there may
probably be some of my acquaintance onboard. Capt "Blackitt" or Lieut.
Gavin who were both of that Squadron would I trust be particularly glad
to hear from me. I can assure the latter Mr Gavin's father & family I left
in good health a twelvemonth ago and by my past letters which I received about 1 2 months ago. I they
