the opening the new Gove mode of Jurisdiction in
this Government takes place here the day after tomorrow
and though this is what I wished much to be present
at, & had promised to stay for, yet upon the receipt
of this last news I lost all patience I went directly
to the Governor General with for the purpose of taking my
leave. Nothing however would he hear about taking leave,
he vowed to me that he would not let me have horses
till the day after tomorrow and in short will not permit me
to set off before that time. In the meantime 'tis true I
shall rest myself after say a little which upon the
whole may not be time lost. From Barnaoul
here I have not slept but in the carriage and as
the roads are bad at this time of year my sleep could not
be very sound. From hence to Petersbourg I shall not
be disposed to give a single hour to rest.

This letter goes by a Courier who sets off directly: yet
I hope to be at Petersbourg a few days after him notwithstanding
the preference on the road with which
Couriers are served.

My anxiety to know what you are about (which increases) How vexatious it is that I cannot know a syllable of what you are
at every place I come to where I had expected to find letters)
