As I know nothing as yet in what manner & in what terms I
shall be engaged myself I cannot plan out anything as
yet for Anderson. On the uncertainty of the degree of
exertion he would choose to bestow, and of the degree of
use he could be of in the different undertakings I may
have or may procure to and assist him in, I do not
see how any agreement settling the proportion in which
we should divide the profits in all the possible circumstances,
can be entered into. He on his part
would do wrong to come without my assuring him a
small salary sufficient to defray supply his expences and
a sum before hand for his journey. But if I can
do that in other respects he must put his whole
confidence in me. I do not mean however that any
honour only should be his security; whatever opinion
he may have of me from you, he will think it no
doubt much more prudent to trust to my interest.
Upon his coming out here and my proposing to him
any undertaking, I should presently be able to judge of the
use he would be of in it, and he at the same time would
