propose the share in the profits which I think just
he should have according to the circumstances, and he
would override agree or object to them as he thought
proper. One thing however he must bind himself to
in my favour and in the strongest manner possible.
That is to engage in no undertaking whatever all in
the country without my consent. In insisting on
this I am not the least affear'd that he should at least
for a considerable time be disposed to under rate
the importance it would be of to him to be engaged
with me alone: but what I should fear is that he
[would be credulous enough to] might become the dupe of
those who would on every occasion be disposed to
set him up against me for the purpose of putting
us at variance, and in the end driving us both
away.

service & having the direction of an establishment of
each sort where my different inventions may be introduced
