money, relying on the strength of your affection towards
me, I have taken the liberty of giving Mr Shairp an
assignment on you for such a Sum as was necessary
to set me even with the world and enable me in future
to shift for myself. I am under the greatest anxiety
least the Sum should strike you as very great,
yet at the same time I am not without hopes
Sir, that when you consider the manner in which
I have been received at one of the most expensive
Courts in Europe, the Connections I have formed,
and the almost pardonable Inducements you can
well conceive, Sir, I must have had to launch
into Expences, that you will be sensible I
must have constantly observed the most rigorous
oeconomy to have been able to restrain myself
within these Bounds.
My Salary at present does not amount to quite
£200 a year, but that you may not have the least
apprehensions, Sir, of my making any further
demands on you, I even wish for your more
perfect Satisfaction that you would write to
Mr Shairpe here to assure him that you will pay
no more money for me.
Since my return from Siberia, I have never had
any Lodgings of my own; The Inconveniencies I
have been put to for want of having a place
