know that in England oil mills are employed as means of
making dung for manure that is, if the sale of the oil
made by the machine and the cattle fattened by the cakes pays
the expences the proprietor is contented with the dung from
the fattening cattle for his profits.

Here on the contrary the
oil alone pays the expences, and the fattening the Cattle alone is
said to produce a profit of 50 p ct. The dung is not thought of.
We have not heard of their being more than one oil mill here
that This is erected by an englishman at a distance of 21 versts
carriage; and though he has not capital enough to by purchase
cattle to fatten and employ horses for his prissum mobile,
yet according to his own account he gets great profits.

We have heard of a place 36 versts up the river Neva which is
to be disposed of. It belongs to the Crown there is a fall of water
already formed by a dam, and was employed to work the machinery
of a copper fabrick the buildings of which are all standing
of repair. There are 25 male peasants with women in
proportion which are attached to it & therefore to be included in
the purchase, and as to the quantity of land I could not learn
that as yet but no doubt there is more than two square miles,
of which a very small part however is arable the rest
woody and no timber of any value. Most likely a good deal
of boggy land. This estate was ordered to be sold by
auction but as nobody offered more than 6,700 roubles
it was not let go at that price and so remains in a neglected
state till somebody will bid more. Tomorrow or next day
