She sal rails against him to me and represents him as
the most infamous, insecurable profligate son imaginable
to others she speaks of him as an angel. I take his part
by endeavouring to show her that the bad qualities which she
complains of in him as far as they exist are the unavoidable
attendants on his good ones But you can well imagine
that it is not easy to make her see that while she requires
of him more obedience & respect than he is disposed to
give her She is taking the most effectual way to root out
all affection from his heart.
The daughter who is itself she treats still worse.
