Supposing you should think of bringing any money with you out of want of confidence
in me or with an intention of making any purchases here, Lay it
out in the following articles which will be on every account better than
bringing money in specie or than having any business with bankers.

1. A Gun made by the most celebrated Gunsmith and of the best quality
but without any expensive ornaments to it. Of the sort that a country Gentleman
use for ordinary shooting under the name of a fowling piece.

2. a brace of pistols of the best in quality larger than pocket pistols
but not so clumsy as home ones. such as are These two articles may
amount to any sum less than 50 pounds. The pistols will be usefull
as defensive fire arms in the road, and the Gun may be loaded
for the same purpose as well as to avoid its being considered as an
object of merchandise at the custom houses you will be visited at.

3. A pair of the best razors to be bought together with the strap and
or what else according to the directions of the maker may be necessary to
the keeping them in good order. This article may amount to any
price. It is for Baron Stroganoff who has begd me to procure
it him from England but has not hopes of receiving it till next
summer by sea. The other two articles are for a Count
Worontzoff who is one of my friends of the 2d class and whom I would
much wish to oblige.

From people in general at home under the pretence of going into the country a great
way off, Why not try to come. By trying I mean enquiring if there are
vessels sailing for Dantzic or Meinel and if the passage be not dangerous at this
season. Coming by land all the way would be too expensive. There are no such
post waggons as you pr speak of which come from Vienna here.

No it will be exposing yourself too much to make such a voyage by sea
at this time of the year. I must feint get some money to send you to pay
for coming by land, and in the mean time I shall know more of my
destiny, and shall have had news from you about your work.

Princess Dashkoff would could now be made usefull in anything that would please the Empress
and she is well capable of judging what will do that. There is some fear that when Potemkin returns
she may lose her favor; but I do not fear the finding other channels of coming at the Empress.
