Preface or Preamble preceding the Queries & Answers.

The publishers of the Sobecednick + have divided among themselves
weekly the trouble of examining the papers sent them, as also of answering
such as require it.

The writer of "Facts & fables " +
having examined these questions sent from an unknown person
has made answers to them which are here subjoined.

The Sobecednick of the lovers of Russian writing, literature under the
Direction of the respectable patroness of Science | is, & must is to be
the repository of such compositions of sense as can afford as
much entertainment as utility. The publishers of it are not
affraid to open the door to truth; for which reason I take the
liberty to lay before them for publication some questions
which may stir up a particular attention in people of
sense & probity.

If these are published the continuation
shall come without loss of time. The Public then will see
justly that if it is possible to ask with boldness, it is
possible to answer with sincerity. Answer and
decisions shall then fill up the Sobecednick and form
an inexhaustible source of ideas bringing up from the
bottom the truth which is so much prized by our
Sovereign.
