fatal. At Constantinople this last year it raged with
some fury there for many years which contributed not a
little to induce the Turks to admit the protection of this
Coast and thereby establish the peace. The Crimea now
becomes another new government added to this Empire and
Potemkin will of course be the Gen:Gov: or Viceroy. He has at
present the two adjacent Governments of New Russia and of Asoph.
He is very great & powerfull now from having acquir obtained so great
advantages from the Turks. It was all his doing.

But with respect to your visit. The expence attending your appearing as my
brother would be in cloaths, and that if it is not at Petersburgh would not
be great: but then you could not in that character be occupied so much
to my advantage: nothing would be easier than to make you pass as
a poor dependent relation or if you choose of another family. even tho
you to come to Petersburgh Mr Fitzherbert & Capper who knows you
might be in the secret as I suppose you would wish to see the former
at least: but if not, nobody need know it. Can you prevent
its being known in England that you are coming to me? Cant you
make some other pretence for going abroad, and let it be supposed
you are in france or elsewhere? The journey would certainly
afford you a stock of health, and spirits I hope to prosecute
your pursuits at your return with more ardour: but of that
you will judge best yourself. The great use you would be of to
me, is what I have to insist on, and even that, you can well conceive
from my character disposition & present circumstances.
