As to Employment I am to do any thing I think
myself fit for, and Choose to do. He tells me he
means to transport the Dock yard below the Barr
and I may have the directing the New One. He
means I should direct Planing Machines and
any other Machines useful under his Commands, which
are no less than all Machines possible, for his immediate
Command is all the Southern Part of the Country, and his
indirect Command is the whole Empire, but he is so
indolent as not to have given yet the necessary orders
to take me under his Command. Every thing I propose
to him he accedes to, but do's nothing. He treats
me with uncommon attention. I go to him at

come ten times without his asking them to sit
down or even looking at them; but I have had
enough of such unavailing distinctions

This situation however will enable me to live
comfortably enough, the only two ways in which
I foresee it will assist my pursuits are by —
furnishing means of proving the Success of such
Inventions as may become profitable, either in other
Parts of the Country or in England, or even I other
Countries, and by enabling me to protect such
