to present to him by which I shall best judge how far he
would be likely to bring me forward.
Any opportunity of distinguishing myself in my own country I should
certainly always prefer to the most flattering situation here.
Although I cannot think of my father without a great deal of uneasiness
on account of what I exp my present situation which I explained
to you in my last yet his advanced age cannot but make me
give me further reason to wish to be at home: besides the
more I become independent on him the stronger my affection
must act towards him and the more I must wish to see him.
But that I should be able to see him, that I should return home
either entirely or for a time I can foresee no means till you
have paid me a visit, till I have had your assistance for

of late the journey would certainly be the best remedy for them

do who are under his command. therefore I shall be able to say

modelling if I had Burkit with me.
