Hon:d Sir
Whatever I may have suffered from your refusing at first to
furn satisfy Mr Shairpe for the sum I was become indepted
to him, notwithstanding the indelible stain which such
a refusal must tend to fix on my Character; It would be
unpardonable ingratitude not to acknowledge the obligations I
must feel myself under for the proof you at length gave of
your affection for me in discharging my dept entirely.
The sum no doubt must have appeared very great; but as the paying
the interest of it cannot make so great a diminution in your income
as the allowance which you had given me no reason not to believe
you would continue, I hope, Sir, that I shall not appear to have
distressed you by my Prodigality.
I have already beg'd you to be persuaded, and now , Sir, I for
the last time repeat my assurances that I will on no account
make any application of that kind to you for the future.
at the same time I hope, Sir, that you will not suspect that the
kind of independence which your compliance with my demands
