other, in case of my not being able to get the money to send for that
purpose at their arrival. When there is such an immense quantity
of business set in motion by one man, money can not be had
always at the moment it is wanted but what is promised will be
obtained. At any rate I am not under no apprehensions of suffering
any inconveniencies worth speaking of for the want of it.

I must endeavour to prepare some servants who understands English to serve
as interpreters.

Now as I am going further & further out of the way of receiving any news from
you I must make all manner of suppositions respecting the different resolutions
you may have formed and make the arrangements necessary for each
1st It is possible that Burket is already set out, or at least that he will be
before this letter can reach you. I must therefore send a letter to Petersburgh
to wait his arrival. Possibly Anderson may take the opportunity of
coming with him. If Burket should be come alone I shall in my letter let
him know by what means he can inform me of his arrival and desire him to
wait there till he hears further from me. If Anderson is with him I should
then wish that they would both make the best of their way here and wait
on my friend's estate till I can let them know where they can join me
and till I can furnish them with the means. In the meantime they may
be making their observations on this said estate, & I shall take care that
the overseer of it shall be prepared to receive them.

2 In case neither are set out, but are disposed to come together and Mr
Anderson has thought of engageing in this undertaking; then it would
be best for them to make the best of their way as straight as possible to
Riga, if any ship should be comeing , & from thence straight by land to the
estate in question. In this case they should hire a Cabitky (kind of carriage
of the Country) with three horses to take them all the way with one
