Out of the money there may be to spare of the 500 rubles my friend
would be glad to have half a dozen neat Saddlecloths of different
patterns, and for me a Saddle with 2 saddle cloths & a double bridle
that is with a curb. My saddle should be smooth & hard without any
girt to come over it or anything else to which can take hold of the
breeches or cause any obstacle to the motion there should be between
the saddle & the breeches. The flap for the same reason should come
down below the knees. What other things I have desired for myself
might likewise be paid for out of this sum if there is any of it to
spare only that I should be acquainted with it directly that I may
reimburse my friend as soon as he is acquainted informed of the money
being taken up. I had not room in the other sheet to explain to you why
I wanted gold like looking spurs. They are to wear with regimentals, but if there
be money to spare I should like to have a pair of Silver spurs also. The former
being only for shew should be without the prickly wheel called I believe the rowel.
As to the price of dress cloaths in this country I can not say anything having brought but one suit
and have not having the Taylor's bill with me. Cloth as it comes from England and pays
a heavy duty cannot but be much dearer and the workmanship costs about twice
as much as in England. The Embroidered suit is still just as I received it.

I left all my dress cloths at Petersburgh in Pleschijeff's care, I also may wear sometimes
frocks but for the most part my uniform. Neither shall I wear any more
laced ruffles. In the summer I may sometimes wear shoes & stockings and at
Petersburgh at the evening assemblies but to be in proper uniform I must
wear boots. I cut a few days ago more than half a yard of hair off and
have a good left, my curls are platted in, and the toupee cropt short so
that unless it be once or twice a week a little powder shook over my head is
all the hairdressing I require. This with the having no further care about dress
contributes in no small degree to my happiness.
