of June, and it seems that I shall be with him therefore at latest I hope to met some
of you at that time, not that there will be any reason for you to weigh wait for that;
it would be better to have you met us farther off in Crimea if possible. As for you
yourself I give up almost all hopes of seeing you before the winter.

How stupid I am, unless you were already set out before this letter could reach you you could not reach this place scarcely
before the end of June. I hope however that A & B will strive hard for it. They need not
stop 3 days at Petersburgh, and should there be a Ship coming to Riga they may get here
sooner, but it will not be worth while to wait a week for a ship to Riga unless they have
a great many things with them.

I mentioned 1,000 acres, but 6 or 700 more 15 versts off may be made into
another farm, and even adjoining 500 more may be taken in.

I spoke of 50 workmen, but 500 more may be hired at the expence of 20 roubles
a man for the whole year. Therefore as soon as there is a certainty of a mans work
labour producing to the value of 30 roubles any number at pleasure may be
hired.

A man will cultivate here 6 acres of land besides his garden of
cabbages, turnips, carrots &c, and the cutting of hay where he can find it
growing on waste land for his horses. He ploughs his land, dungs it, sows it,
reaps the corn & dries it in a kind of oven before he threshes it. He makes all
his instruments and by the help of his wife makes his cloaths and supplies
all his wants.

April 9. I have just settled matters for Burket to be provided with what is
necessary for his journey without any expence to him. Mr Anderson might likewise
accompany him without expence. A Cabitkic or, I believe, two if necessary, with
money for horses will be given and by some means or other a Soldier to
manage on the road. I send by this same opportunity letters to be left at
Hynams containing the necessary instructions at their arrival.
