together. I think at present to prepare a couple of 60 Gunships in such
manner as for all as many parts as possible to be put together here and in
that manner to be transported to the Crimea where they may be in a short time
compleated: but at what part of the Crimea or elsewhere any more than when I can
not as yet determine. I may probably take another excursion that way this year.
The journey I have been making this spring with the Prince to me who donot
think much of fatigue has been in every respect highly agreable. Independent
of the flattering manner in which he treated me and the pleasure which must
arise from the being witness to the steps taken for the improvement of his
Governments, I had not for a long while spent my time so merrily.

The news of the death of Gen: Landskoy and the affliction of the Empress on that
account made the Prince set out with the utmost expedition from Kremenchuck with only
one servant with him, leaving us all to disperse from thence according to our
several destinations. This circumstance made me much more a little at a loss at
my arrival here, for his intentions were to have spent some days here in his
way to Petersburgh and I should then have got instructions for his from him
respecting several things in my mode of proceding which I must now determine of
myself. He promised tis true at setting off that he would write to me about
somethings which I asked him; but were I to wait for that he would be but
ill pleased to find when he comes here that nothing is began upon.

It is not the time of year for cutting timber and there is none ready so
that I can begin no Ships but none can must confine myself to the
building some rowing Vessels & boats which will be wanted next spring when
the Empress is expected to embark here for Cherson in her way to the Crim.
Common Carpenters & joiners are the only workmen for wood to be found
here, and probably I shall not have a man who has ever worked at a floating
