Friends could, for the present, draw him hither,
and induce him to abandon the means, he possesses
of putting in practice the Schemes of Improvement
in Naval Architecture that have long employed
his thoughts and attention.

I meant to do myself the honour to wait on the
Marquiss of Carmarthen upon the Ground of my son's
Letters, to request his permission to dispence with
a few hands going to my son's Assistance, for a
limited time; for altho' I know there are —
indirect means of sending such abroad, yet
my own situation in Life will not suffer me
to make use of any other than what are regular
and avowed; and if that Permission can be
obtained I should have the satisfaction of thinking
I may possibly have contributed something to the
