I have just received by a Courier from Petersburgh yours of Septr 23d with 5 boxes.

know what there is particular in the latter.
6 Saddle Cloths besides the one on the Saddle
2 Pairs of Boots which fit excedingly well
Spurs one pair Silver & another of leather
a dozen Handkerchiefs
I have no account of the cost
of any of the things you send me
except the Dollond's bill, neither
do I hear anything about the duty
paid at the Custom-house.
a Pair of Scales
2 Sets of drawing Instruments & a pair of Compasses the legs of which as
far as I have observed can be applied perpendicularly as well as other
to the paper, but do not (as those I have recid) apply
themselves perpendicularly whatever be the angle they are opened to.
2 doz Sliding Pencils. 3 old Sliding rules
4 Parallel Rulers of which 3 are short one long.
2 Air balloons, so badly packed or as I suppose repacked at the
Custom house that they are much torn.
2 Small bottles of Kaoutchou
1 of our old sort of ink glasses Ink Glasses, 1 of our old sort which I think are the best after all
as they do not admit of the pen being immersed into or daubed by
the ink higher up than the nib. I had been ordering some at our
of the same form at our glass house here.
1 which has three necks likewise besides an opening in the middle. In this
sort I think the pen can never be clean not fail to ink your fingers after the first dip.
