without the furnaces cooling. I have not time to write you a long
letter now. I have detained the Courier a day because I could not quit the books you
have sent me. besides you will probably in a few days after you receive this have
one letter with news of the arrival of Notman in England, for I am almost
determined to dispatch him there in a few days for the purpose of bringing over immediately
by land 5 or 6 people I stand most in need of. I hope he will be
more successful with them than you were with Gill. He will certainly see you if he comes
therefore be looking out for people whom you may send him to, some of which may
suit better than his acquaintance. I want a clever fellow of a Sailor who capable
of rigging a Ship or small vessels as well as a Shipwright. Remember Dance
and the other nameless watchmaking lad. Why not Jewen come out if he is cleve
and pains taking: but let me have no idle any more than self conceited ones.
If Notman comes he will tell you all about me. My health seems pretty wel
reestablished. TheOne reason of my sending Notman is that having received near
a twelvemonth ago the 600 rubles for Burkit I am ashamed of having yet
done nothing with it. I wrote much about distilling and had to
have an english distilling apparatus. You say nothing about it
but possibly that the other Volumes of Encyc: Brit: &c may have be
sent to Riga or even to Petersburgh otherwise directed.

I shall certainly send an officer in a few days to Riga to see if
any thing be came there for me and to bring it away. If Notman
goes they will go together. A great disappointment indeed tho not
seeing the Models of Windmills. They have attempted to build
one here but it is so miserably bad that as to be entirely useless
I do not meddle with it in expectation of surer grounds to go on.

Why hear I no more of Dinwidee & Henderson?

Anderson's seeds of different vines I hope we shall partake of

Shall we have any Scotch grass.

My tools are in Burkit's care. There is a wainskot chest with
small drawers.

copied from another Sheet Learn from Burkit his receipt for the Milk punch. You say not a word
about coming, as if all thoughts of it were at an end.
