I am exceedingly ashamed and
hurt that my not having waited on you, or written to you, in
consequence of the favour you did me in calling in Brewer
Street, has so much the appearance of neglect, or disinclination
to comply with your request, respecting your Son, Mr
Bentham's Account of Russia &c A slight fever, with
violent pains in the head, has not only been the cause of
confinement to the House, and is at this time, but have
likewise prevented my giving that attention to your wishes
which I, otherwise, undoubtedly, should have done: but that
I may no longer keep you in suspense, I have prevailed
on my Secretary to write for me; a task She by no means
affects. With regard to the point in question, I
can only assure you it will give me great pleasure to be,
in any degree, serviceable in this business. You know
our unsettled situation; how long we may remain so, is
hard to say: but that time I have to spare, shall, most
