Critchoff 3d December O.S. 1784.

Hond Sir

I had the pleasure a few days ago of receiving your
letter of the 15th of October. If you were disappointed
in not having an opportunity of hearing news of me from
Mr Sambouski, I hope you will receive some satisfaction
in this respect from the bearer of this letter. His name
is James Notman, he is a plain, honest, good kind of a
man, Quaker in religion and by trade a Tanner.

He cannot make any long stay in London or even in
England; but I hope nothing will prevent his seeing you,
so that I may have the satisfaction at his return to
receive recent news of your health & happiness through
one who has been a witness to it.

I am very sorry,
Sir, that it is impossible for me at present to write a
letter in length answerable to the last you were so kind
