of all sorts, yet you must relinquish every idea of Sporting; you will
perceive that you can do that without much regret as Shooting in
the Winter is mere Murder without any amusement; if you chuse
however you may bring your Gun with you, it may be useful
but no Dog, that will be attended with a great deal of trouble & some
Expence; the latter for various reasons I would wish you to avoid
as much as possible, the greatest & most forcible is that the less
money you expend in coming here, the better opinion the Colonel
will form of you. bring however with you fishing Hooks of various
sizes from three Inches long to one Inch,, smaller, I imagine, will

When you arrive in London you will wait on Mr. Jere.y Bentham
No. 6 Old Buildings Lincolns Inn to know what Commissions he
may have to send to his Brother the Colonel; but should he not
be in Town, and that you Embark for Riga without seeing him,
upon your Arrival in that City you must enquire for Messrs-
Zuchurbecher & Hay Merchants who will be instructed by the
Colonel what to do for you. my intention was to have wrote

I arrived at Moscow, but, at present the Roads to that Place
are impassible, and I am obliged to finish This in a great hurry to
send off with some Letters of the Colonel's. believe me to be, dear
Benson, with sincere wishes for your prosperity, and for our Meeting
again in England some time hence,
your real Friend & Wellwisher
