St James's 23d. Augt. 1785

Dear Sir,

Upon my coming to Town from Sydenham
this Morning I found your obliging Favour of the 20th.

—I am of Opinion that the letter you want to have
conveyed to your Son will arrive at Nice rather too
late to find him, as it will be drawing towards the
latter End of Sepr. before it can reach there; it must
come thro' London, from whence I suspect we shall
not be able to forward it earlier than this day Se'Night.
We have a Consul at Nice, to whom I could send it
twice a Week, Vizt. Fridays & Tuesdays, but I doubt it cannot
get to Me in Time for next Friday. - You are the best
Judge how long Mr. Bentham may remain at Nice
and the probability of the Letter finding him there.

The Letter I perceive will be of no Use to him till He
gets to Constantinople, to which Place I can very
readily send it in Our Ambassador, Sir Robt. Ainslie's,
Packet, upon whom I presume Mr Bentham will
call upon his arrival there: In either of these Modes
of Conveyance I am at your Service, and shall be
ready to obey your Commands. — I am exceedingly
