at Critchoff. This I have done by a Contract for the
Term of ten years; by which all the Buildings,
Materials, Stock in hand, and workmen are
furnished me together with several Sums of money
for Each establishment amounting in all to about
20,000 Rubles, the first year without any Interest
but in the Course of the four following years, to be
returned, one ¼th Part at the expiration of each year,
The Salaries of the English & other Master Workmen
are my expence, as of course the wages of the
Other Workmen, Slaves of the Prince, the rate of
which is stipulated.
The Profits reserved to the Prince, during this Term
are scarcely any but that of the Circulation of
money it will occasion on his Estate, except with
respect to the Leather Manufactory, a duty of
one Ruble for every Pood of leather produced for
sale which is accordingly to be stamped by his
Agent.
Besides this Manufacture which, I am in
hopes, will be more compleat than any in England,
I have Glass making, Blacksmiths, Mill wrights
and Joyner's Works going on, some of which I
hope soon will be extended on a considerable
wholesale Plan.
I have also Hemp-Tackling, the advantages of
which are as yet doubtful, and a Piece of Land
