thought it possible that on account of Lord Grantham's
Death, his House on Putney Common might be to be
disposed of, and as I was acquainted with Mr
Baldwin, the Deputy Clerk of the Crown under Mr York
who I knew was concerned in business for Lord Hardwick's
Family, I wrote him upon the Subject, and from him
I learn, that altho' Lady Grantham thinks of continuing in it,
for the present, it may not be for any long time; the favour
therefore I have to beg of you is, in case her Ladyship
shall be disposed to part with it in the Course of the winter
or at any time in the Spring, that you will be so good
to favour Mr Abbot with your recommendation that he
may have the refusal of it; his Town House is adjoining
to Newcastle House in Lincoln's Inn Fields but he and
the young Lady as well as myself & Mrs Bentham
have been above Six Weeks at this Place from whence
we are now upon the point of changing the Scene for
Bath. So many of your Connections & Acquaintances
have been here & but just left it, it would be
impertinent in me to offer to give you a Detail of
the Company, of which, upon the whole, there has been
a much greater reason than was ever known before.

Dr Colman, Lord & Lady Sommers, Miss Holcomb &
Mr & Mrs Bond & others from the neighbourhood of
Worcester, made their appearance at the Well, that we
might stand some Chance of the pleasure of seeing
