Broad Sanct.ry Jan.y 10th 1787

Sir,
Since I left your house yesterday morning my
mind has been agetated to the greatest degree your treatment of my demand has
so much astonished me that I hardly know what I am writing to be told
that you know nothing of the Bill which you have long since had and that
you did not exspect to hear any more about it is to me wonderfull indeed,
therefore take the liberty to state my reasons for not pressing the payment
long since please recollect. Sir the last time I applyed to you for
Money you complained of some heavy losses you had sustained by
the failure of your Banker and that you had likewise been very
unsuccessful in letting your Houses ad to these your consequences
and Character as a Gentleman whom I always looked up to with the
greatest respect their Town has prevented my calling on you or
seeming in the least troublesome, in full expectation I should have
given you reason to be satisfied with my conduct though it's a very
Great loss to my self which I need not mentioned to you who so well
knows the difference of the Value of money now and from Years back
to make me amends in that must leave to your candour and generosity
your sending me away without paying one Shilling of my large —
ballance of five Hundred and Eight Pounds Eight Shillings
and nine pence with only saying you would look to the Account
without naming any time for payment obliges me to inform you that
unless you do immediately settle my bill I must take such means
as I never expected you would have driven me to, and again beg
leave to remind you that with holding my Money you have —
benefitted near four Hundred Pound by the Interest of Money &
difference of the funds beg to conclude by intreating the favor of
your answer. —

Am Sir your most
Obe.t & Hum.ble
Edw.d Glanvill.

To
Jeremiah Bentham Esq.r
Queen Square Place
