Kremenchuck 16th May 1787

Here am I in as anxious a state of suspense as my natural
indifference increased by the remaining effects of my ague? [J.B.] will admit of
I for a time I think myself so much injured as to much
inclined to bid adieu to everything at least in this part of the Country
at other times my disposition is more Courtierlike and I determine
to wait with patient hopes of my discontentments being made
to pass away. Mr Fitzherbert to whom I could not help
speaking of my grievances advised me nothing but patience
and was correct in his assurances that I should shall have occasion
to be contented, enough of meditations. The Empress
with the Court were just setting off from Chremenchuck
when I came in sight of it in my little boat, having
left Vermicular 3 or 4 versts behind for the men to
clean & dress themselves. I stopt till Verm: came
up and about an hour afterwards to satisfy the
curiosity of some of the inhabitants; but overtook came in sight of
the Galley in a couple of hours. I went forward in
my little 2h oar'd boat to find out the Prince, but as he was
in a private part with the Empress I could not see him
till he returned to his own Galley to supper.
