Vermicular was ordered to take its station as near as possible
the Prince's Galley which was next the Empress's. In the
morning he came onboard and was as pleased with it as could
be. The 24 oard boat he desired might always attend him as
it was far better than any in the fleet, and as the Galleys
were sometimes several versts from one another, the foreign
Ministers and others were all glad to have it sent for them
as my Steersman was ill, I was frequently obliged to go with
the boat myself which certainly contributed to increase my ague.

The Empress at several different times and to different persons
spoke in praise of Verm: When we came near within 40 versts of Kaydac which
is a few versts from the future city of Ekaterinslaw.
The Gallies (as had often been the case) some got aground and
in short were on account of the wind could not procede. The Prince
then came aboard and though the wind was contrary we
arrived in 4 1/4 hours. He was so pleased with Verm that although
it was such windy weather, and he had a house of his own in
the place he would not go ashore it was about 4 o'clock; but
as the Emperor was come there to surprize the Empress, the Prince
went to pay him a visit at his lodgings, and the Emperor came
and returned it onboard Vermi As the Prince chose to sleep
onboard there is no doubt but the Emperor as well as everybody praised
the invention.
