The next evening the Gallies that is some of them arrived
but the Empress with all her patience was obliged to take
to land carriage 20 versts off. From here all went by
land to Cherson. I followed also by land as the Prince would
not have Verm pass the waterfalls. I ordered back to Chermenchuk
that it might be once more seen after having so
far against so strong a stream. At Cherson I lodged at
Belilinsimisky's From Krakow I received my money which
with some I received from Dashkoff made 3,000 rubles. This
was not enough for Q.S.P. and every day I have been expecting
more today the Prince told me to give him tomorrow an account
of what Verm cost me and I am in great hopes of receiving
it immediately. I then will not loose a moment to send it
probably with Beatty as far as Creitchoff. I expect to return
again to Cherson tomorrow night or next day and if I do not
receive anything before I go I will send what I have rather
than delay any more. As yet I have had neither
reward nor promise of reward, although everybody else has
had. The Prince has been generous to my Soldiers and more
particularly the boatmen have been well paid for their troubles
I possibly may come to visit you in about a month,
but this is uncertain.
