Kremenchuck 5th July 1787

Half past one o'clock at night and the Prince is just
come onboard Vermicular to sleep, that we may
set out by daylight without waking him.

I am in a hell of a humour not having yet
received a farthing in payment for Verm. and
still worse from hearing that the exchange is
terribly unfavourable for remitting in the
winter a pound £ weight he bought for 5 roubles
and now you must give 6 for it 20 pr ct difference
Have you no means of raising the money till
winter or of stopping Q.S.P.'s claims till then.

In about 3 weeks I must be with you at
Kreetcheff to meet Starl and settle all
accounts. The Contract will then be annulled
unless in the scarcely possible case of my agreeing
