Novr 16.th

This is the first day of winter, it freezes hard and the
ground is covered with snow, the roads in your part of the world
are no doubt formed and I fear you may be already set out.
If however you are still in this land I most earnestly hope
you will change your plan so as to take Chersen in your way.
or if you should have any particular aversion to that at least
to contrive some means of our meeting. There is a place
called Kamenka on the Dnieper just above the waterfalls
here lies a great number of old Cannon & other Artillery stores
belonging to the Admiralty & here it is Mardvinoff wishes me
to build on the admiralty account some Vessels of war or
rather Gunboats of my inention the success of which has
already been experienced. If I undertake this business which
I shall know in a day or two we could spend a little time here
together in as perfect retirement as at Zadobrast. But I myself
should not wish to detain you nor that you should think of
occupying yourself about Jurists: either there or here. It is only
2 or 3 days that I wish so much to pass with you before
you return to England where I dare to say on all accounts it
is most adviseable you should repair as soon as possible.
