with me the Prince has placed in my regiment there and
one of them a Captain who had asked his dismission he
by my recommendation he made Major, and though there should
not be vacancies in that regiment they will receive their pay
the same. He gave me money for post horses for each Officer
letters of recommendation to the different Governors Orders for
the irregular troops doing duty of all along the frontiers to
obey me with respect to any assistance I may require of them and
order to address myself to him with respect to any observations
I may make. He talked to me a good deal about Ramschatka
and the great profit of the fur trade there and it seems probable
that I may one time or other visit those parts. It is with
this view that I have got placed in my regiment four
English seamen of those who served with me on the Flotille
this summer 2 of them are new Ensigns & 2 second lieutenants.
My regiment there is dispersed so as to occupy at least several
hundred versts along the frontiers I know not yet what part
nor do I much care as it is not my intention to pass more
time at it than is sufficient to receive it and inform myself
of the profit it may produce me during my absence.
The General who commands the Corps resides at Omsk where
I have already dispatched all my Officers & baggage and where
I must present myself for my orders.
Not withstanding this my removal by this man to a greater
