and right minded to the great Joy of the whole nation
except those who were to form the new Ministry & such
as were immediately connected with them — and by
the Intervention & blessing of Providence the old
Ministers continuance and the nation is preserved
the disorder Discord & Confusion wch wod have been the
consequence every where from the wretched prospect
that was opening upon us

Last Friday being the day the King sent his Messages
by Commissioners in a Speech to both the Houses to request
H his Parliament of his security & his compleat Capacity
to resume the reins of Government with his own hands
The A universal Joy was manifested throughout the
whole metropolis & indeed throughout the Kingdom
by a General Illumination every where Your Mother
and I for the of entertaining ourselves with
the sight of the Illuminations as well as we could
accompanied with two other Ladies in my Coach
meant to traverse all the Streets & Square in &
proceeding thro' Pall Mall got into St. James's Street
and having got up nearly to the top of it next
to Piccadilly, we were so jammed in by other
Carriage who for the most part had Coronets
upon their back it was impossible for ours
to make move either backwards or forwards or backwards
or at either side for above 2 hours at last we
made shift to get into Piccadilly & there we were
Stopped more an hour by the Concourse of the
greatest number of Carriages of the Nobility & others
I ever saw we however afterwards made Shift
to drive into Berkley Square Hanover Square
and Lincoln's Inn Fields & so home, at whch we
did not arrive till near two o Clk in the
morning tho' we set out upon our travels, at
Eight o' Clk in the Evening and I do verily
believe this country was never sensible of so
