Colonel Delafontaine, a Swiss formerly in the French Service
who went to Petersburgh with the Duchess of Kingston, and is
supposed to have entered into the Russian Service in the present
War; He is about 70 years of age, my friend wishes to know
whether he is living and if he is dead, requests a Certificate
of his Death may be sent over hither; as my Friend is one
I have often been obliged to myself, & upon your account, I
hope you will furnish me with the best account you can
of this Coll Delafontaine & as soon as possible.

And now my dear Sam, to come a little nearer home to what
concerns ourselves in particular, I have to acquaint you that your
Brother by the persuasion of his friend Mr Wilson is preparing &
just now publishing what he had many years ago put to the Press, Parts of the work he has been so
long about, tho' it is only one Vol. in 4to under the Title
of "An Introduction to the Principles of Morals & Legislation"
and that his "Defence of Usury" wch in a Letter I have lately
rece'd from him, he calls your Nephew, on account of its
having been written under your roof & under your Eye;
has been so well received by the Public & so much Commended
by all who have read it that it is already out of print,
near 100d copies of it were sent to Ireland where it was
so well esteemed & particularly on account of the Reduction
of Intent being a Subject under consideration of both Houses
of Parliament in that Country that the Book Sellers at Dublin
have reprinted it there, to the amount of 750 Copies, and
for your further satisfaction I have herein inclosed a
copy of a Letter your Brother lately rece'd from a Bookseller
of the First Eminence
in which you will find a convincing</unclear>
proof of your Brothers credit & reputation as an Author

He passes his time being wholly taken up in writing, in
the same sequestered & retired manner he lived in while
with you, at Hendon in Middlx about seven miles in Town
where he has an apartment in a Farm House belonging
to a Tenant of Mr Brown's & where he lives perfectly in
his own way & dines at his own times, & is secure from
Interruptions of every kind, & where he means to continue
I believe for some time, as he finds he can be provided with
all manner of Eatables &c just as he likes without the
