Entirely beloved Cousin Charles Duke of Norfolk
Earl Marshal and Our Hereditary Marshal
of England Greeting: Whereas Samuel
Bentham Esqr Colonel of the Regiment
of Rajsk in the Service of Her Imperial
Majesty of all the Russias hath by his
Petition humbly represented unto Us That
having been entrusted with the Command of
the first division of the Flotilla employed
on the Liman under his Serene Highness
Prince Nassau Siegen, he had the good
fortune to meet with Her Imperial
Majesty's most gracious approbation of
his conduct in consequence of which he
was honoured with the Cross of the Military
Order of St George, the Petitioner anxious
that his Conduct may meet with our Royal
Approbation begs to be permitted to lay
himself at Our Feet and request the Permission
of accepting and wearing in his
own Country the above gracious Mark of
Her Imperial Majesty's favor. Know Ye
that We of Our Princely Grace and Special favor
have

to accept & wear in his own Country
the Cross of the Military Order of St. George
