The following is a Letter that was Written by
A Captain Newton at a Time he was with
Coll Bentham in Siberia, to his Father at
Newcastle, and was obtained from the latter
by the Revd Mr Thos Bentham of Christchurch
Oxon, and by him delivered to Mr Abbot at
Harrowgate who transmitted the Same from
thence to the Coll's Father in Sept.r 1790 who
was then at Bath, to whom both Capt Newton
and his Father were absolute Strangers —
except with respect to what is mentioned
in some of the foregoing Letters, nor was
there ever the least probability of its —
coming to the hands of the Colonel's Father,
which is a Circumstance that rendered
what is mentioned of the Colonel the
more acceptable to his Father as no
manner of Compliment could be intended
by the Writer of that Letter.

You will be astonished to receive a Letter from
this part of the World. Prince Potemkin has thought
proper to send me here to a Col.l Bentham an
Englishman — This Gentleman is now only thirty
years of age. he explored great Part of Siberia
at the age of Twenty. His report of that Country
pleased her Majesty so much that he has now
