Entered in the Commercial Quarto 1797.
I wrote to you at my setting out for Siberia, telling of
my having received the Command of two Batallions
belonging to the Corps there. Each Batallion is similar
to the one I commanded at Kritchoff but they are at a
great distance, one from the other, according to my desire.
The one, at which I am at present, occupies
a space of about 200d Versts, on the Frontier towards
the Kirgises. You will see in the Map a Line of
Fortresses, as they are called (how little so ever they
deserve the Name,) all along the Kirgisian Frontier
at those from Chernovitsk to Semirsk, besides
my Batallion which is quartered within that distance
together with so much of the Frontier is under
my immediate Command during my residence
here.
Yarmiskoff, which is likewise a Town, should
be my Quarters, and the House there is larger and
somewhat better than the Kritzoff one was, but as
the Commerce or Barter with the Kirgese is carried
on at Korakoff 50 Versts to the Northward, I choose
rather
