To the high-born and most right worshipful Mr
Colonel of the third and Catherinburgh Musqueteer
Batallia Commander and Knight Samuel
Johnson Bentham
From Lieutt Kojatchjevski Report.

The Congress at Thiachta continues to this
time: as the Chinese determinately stood out
that the first principal of the delinquents should have their
heads cut off, our Commissioners did not choose
to do any such thing; so they determined in anger that
if ours did not choose to cut off the head of
one, they before our eyes would cut off the
heads of four of our people whom they had in
their possession: and the 6th of April they broke
up the Congress and so our people having lost
all hope of establishing between the two Empires
agreement and friendship, were desirous at least
to take away from the Chinese the abovementioned
four people. At the time when they should
be brought forth to the place of execution, stepping
forward as if from curiosity on a sudden to
cut them off: and for the purpose greater security of being out
of danger the 7th in the night they required from
the Catherinburgh Batallion a Company, with
which
