at Petersburg the Coll came into the
Room to the Dutchess with a large
Manuscript Book in his hands
which having excited her Questions
he told her, was the history of her
Life, wch depended on her whether
he should publish or not telling
her, at the same time, that he
expected to be immediately paid
for 1st his Expences 2d the promised
gratification 3d a sufficiency to
Indemnify him for all the Vexations,
ill usage & trouble he had suffered
from her during the Journey. The
Dutchess upon this, began to exclaim
like a Fury, but he Stopt her by
representing the absurdity of her
contributing further to the History,
assuring her that he should pen
down all she was giving herself
the trouble to say upon the occasion
& he flattered himself that the
painting of her present Fears wod
not a little add to the merit of
his Book. Frightened by such threats
the poor Dutchess was obliged to comply
