The Inclos'd, I hope, will give you as much pleasure as it
do's me; I dare say you saw in some of the Papers an account of
Genl Touaras & two other Russian Officers being at Vienna, & that from thence they had are to go to
Leghorn & the Archepelago, Sacre it seems was of his Party, & at
the destination was to view & give directions to the Russian
Vessels, it in some measure accounts for their engaging here
to be of their Party.
I saw Mr Aust of the Secretary of State's office yesterday
he read to me a Part of a Letter he had just rec'd from
Whitworth at Catereburg,, which instead of Clearing up, served
to heighten the Mistery about the to the Kergeec —
from Tobolsk, which in a former Letter he told Mr Austin
he had sent hither directed to him, & that he took it
for granted it wod be to be found among the Papers of his
office, whence by this last letter, in answer to Mr Aust's
having at my request exercised of Whitworth about it, as
it had not been rec'd, his Whitworth now tells him, yt in fact he
never had it, but that Mr Bentham (Sam) would be
the Bearer of it himself, as he was coming over to England,
and one may conclude that therefore Sam was or had
lately been himself at Catersburg, tho' the Inclosed Letter
mentions nothing of it, however, as we have reason
